GitHub should tell you the proper command-line if you go to the repo and see the light-blue “Quick setup” box, that’s the place. back in the VS PowerShell, in your Screeps folder, clone your repo. pub file from step 4, and give it a title, and Add click on your profile image (top-right). choose Notepad! or your other favorite text editor. right-click on “id_rsa.pub” and click Open With…. go to This PC > C: > Users > username >. make sure View > Hidden Items is checked. Unix guides say to use ~/.ssh/id_rsa, but PowerShell (at least without configuration I’m not familiar with) won’t recognize ~ as a shortcut to C:/Users/YourUserName. “ssh-add C:/Users/username/.ssh/id_rsa”. first note where you put the key, eg ” C:\Users\ username/.ssh/id_rsa”. Running ssh-agent OpenSSH Authentication Agent type “Get-Service ssh-agent” into the terminal. Back in VS Code, in the Terminal, make sure it’s running. Start the service (either by pushing the button in the Services app window, or by using the command in 9.5.2 above). if you want it to fire up only when you want, choose Manual, then type “Start-Service ssh-agent” into the Powershell command line. which means it starts every time you boot the machine. Find OpenSSH Authentication Agent in the list on the right.

Open the “Services” app on your Windows box.Set the OpenSSH Authentication Agent to start.So, yeah, a secure passphrase isn’t a bad idea.Hint: when he steals your girlfriend, sells your TV, and moves to Atlanta, he’s gonna crap all over your creeps repo at the same time. Or don’t use a password, if you really trust your roommate that much.

But if you’re gonna use this key to put real code on the internet, all someone would need to sabotage you would be (A) this file, and (B) your passphrase.

Write the password on a sticky and put that on your monitor. Someone would need access to your computer to use it anyway. It probably doesn’t need to be too secure.

Set your name and email for git generally for Open Source contributions people use their real name and if you plan on doing that and using it to get a job, I suggest using your real name. Install Git : You’ll have to restart VC Code as the Git install adds its path to PowerShell, which needs to be restarted.Install the TypeScript compiler : npm install -g typescript.This post has more detail about getting stuff working, including git. I think getting up & running on Windows is easier using the typescript package. If you’re using a different environment or IDE, this post is probably for you. UPDATE: I’ve re-started again, this time using the screeps typescript starter package, rather than configuring things by hand.
